LG set to unveil roll-up TV screen at CES tech show

LG Display is set to unveil a flexible TV screen that can be "rolled-up like a newspaper".

The South Korean company is to debut the 18-inch foldable screen at CES 2016 in Las Vegas.

The annual consumer technology event gives firms the opportunity to showcase their new technologies and products.

The firm has not revealed how much the product will cost or when it will be released for sale.

It was first mentioned by the company in 2014 and is currently in the prototype stage.

LG will also reveal a range of large and ultra-thin displays at CES, including a 55-inch design concept OLED TV display that is paper-thin due to the electric circuits being installed separately.

It will also unveil a matching pair of 65-inch 65-inch extreme-curve concave/convex OLED displays.

The technology builds on LG's OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) displays, a type of display technology that makes it possible to create even slimmer TV sets than LCD or plasma screens.

It does this by making it possible to create screens without the need for a back panel providing light to the screen.

Further details of the products will be released during the consumer event that runs from 6 January to 9 January.
